At the end of the day, man oh man, this record is a non-stop party. Sweaty, pissed off and joyous.
In 2005, Firewater's Tod A embarked on what would become a three year sabbatical through the Middle East, the Indian Subcontinent and South East Asia. He had recently split with his wife; George W. Bush had just been re-elected; New York, his home for the last 20 years, had become a cold and foreign place. He wasn't even sure he wanted to make music anymore. "I was extremely depressed. The NYC skyline looked like bad wallpaper to me. It was either kill myself or hit the road," he says. He put everything he owned in storage and left NYC with a few clothes and a laptop.
The journey Tod undertook would challenge him creatively in ways he couldn't have imagined in its planning stages. "I traveled overland starting in Delhi, India, across the Thar Desert, then through Rajasthan, onward through the Punjab, and into Pakistan," he recounts. "I had originally planned to continue overland through Afghanistan, Iran and Turkey, ending in Istanbul." But things didn't go exactly as planned. Along the way he was drugged, robbed, detained, and later struck down with severe intestinal problems. Travelers were disappearing along the road to Kabul. As Tod puts it, "I was forced to end my trip at the Khyber Pass on the Afghan border, due to general ill health and the unnerving likelihood of kidnapping."
Recording with a single microphone and a laptop in his pack, he captured performances with a vast array of musicians across India and Pakistan--and eventually Turkey and Israel. Bhangra and sufi percussion would form the basis for the songs he wrote along the way--songs about the world he left behind ("This Is My Life", "Electric City"), politics ("Borneo", "Hey Clown"), and dislocation ("6:45", "Feels like the End of the World"). Tod's acerbic wit shines on The Golden Hour, elucidating both the beauty and the absurdity of the world.
Firewater drummer Tamir Muskat (of Balkan Beat Box) produced, mixed and played on the album, along with a strange cast of characters from 5 different countries. Tod tells the story of the trip in a short video, which includes footage from his travels. He also chronicled his experiences on his travel blog, Postcards from the Other Side of the World.
All this makes for a fine and interesting story. But at the end of the day, man oh man, this record is a non-stop party. Sweaty, pissed off and joyous.

Finally it’s here! After many years, the repress arrived. This time how it was supposed to be. With new cover artwork and newly mixed songs.
It's a rare but exhilarating occasion when you put on a new LP and are utterly blown away by what you hear. Every now and then, music makes you feel magically alive -- makes you want to jump around, pound your fist in the air, and shout "Oh, yeah!" Listening to Grand Fury, the second major release by Los Angeles quartet the Bellrays, is such an experience.
Imagine the Funhouse-era Stooges fronted by a female R&B singer instead of Iggy Pop, and you'll have a vague understanding of what the Bellrays call "maximum rock 'n' soul". Although they've drawn comparisons to the Stooges or the MC5 fronted by Tina Turner, Etta James, or Aretha Franklin, the Bellrays rightly point out that soul was an important element in those Detroit-area punks' sounds. So, in some ways, the Bellrays are just bringing out an element of early punk music that was there all along. Nonetheless, the resulting sound is startlingly unique.
Lead singer Lisa Kekaula has also sung jazz, and it's obvious she has technical skill, but she tears into these songs with a venom and passion that is pure rock 'n' roll. Bandmates Tony Fate, Bob Vennum, and Ray Chin provide a raw, blues-edged backing that is loose enough to allow Kekaula considerable room to go wild.
And does she ever. With her raucous voice and the aggressive songs penned by guitarist Fate, Kekaula makes you believe she'd sooner spit in your face than look at you. "I'm stuck inside a moment / Can't find my way out / And time keeps draggin' on" she sings on "Fire on the Moon", but the confident way she spits out the words makes you believe she could claw her way out of anything. Likewise, Kekaula's indictment of "Stupid Fuckin' People" is so fierce it's almost scary. When she snarls, "Stupid fuckin' people always get in my way / Want to ruin my piece of the world" you know you'd better get out of her way. The only time this sonic assault slows down is on "Have a Little Faith in Me", a sexy soul number that Janis Joplin would have been proud to sing.
The album will be released on the 5th of June 2020.

2020 starts with a Bang!
Captives are a ferocious hard hitting Rock 'n Punk 'n Roll band from Melbourne, Australia.
With the release of their debut self titled EP in two thousand and thirteen and the follow up ‘Butterflies, diamonds and lightning’ EP the year after, they quickly gained the attention of Triple J national radio in Australia with the first single ‘Insomnia’ becoming one of the top fifty most played songs on Triple J Unearthed radio in that year gaining a spot addition to the national station.

"XII Bestias" - twelve songs with a style mixed between Chelsea Wolfe and Tito & Tarantula, a fusion of New Wave and Desert Rock, against thje permanently cheerful, forced self-expression and for honest commitment to one's own feeling.
"I have the feeling that showing true emotions is not desired anymore. Somehow everything is more appearance than being" singer Linda Marlen Runge, who is also a German television star, believes. In contrast, she and her four bandmates from Mexico recorded a bold, dark but mainly extremely intense album. Between dreamy vibes and danceable power grooves there is music reflecting the magic of its four recording locations, Guadalajara, Berlin, Los Angeles and the legendary Sonic Ranch in Tornillo, Texas, in a most powerful way. Desert and city melancholy fuse into a sound created of many shadows and emotions, making the listener feel the absolute honesty of the band.
In december 2018 Lejana won the price for the record of the year and the price for the best video for "bullet" in the Canica Music Awards (Mexico).

They’re as handy with a straight razor as they are with garage punk.
This duo of real-life barbers, the Sweeney Todd of Punk -- Jason Cutthroat (vocals, guitar) and Donny
Paycheck (drums) — formed the band in February of this year and by March they had already
recorded their album with long time Paycheck/Zeke collaborator, and producer legend Jack Endino
(Nirvana, Mudhoney, The Sonics, Soundgarden). Donny Paycheck enthuses "Working with Jack on
the record was smooth and easy. He really knows how to bring sounds to life." Since the Brothers
share the same profession (a grizzly one in days of yore) and a passion for bands like The Gun Club,
The Cramps, Eagles of Death Metal, The Hives, it was effortless for the duo to write songs and come
up with ideas for the band—like wearing bloodspattered white smocks for live shows.
Paycheck has no less than eleven Zeke albums under his belt, a band with whom he toured the world
playing with artists like Iron Maiden, Pearl Jam, Motorhead, Superjoint Ritual, Mudhoney,
Supersuckers, and D.O.A. He's also recorded albums with the bands Toxic Holocaust and
Camarosmith. Together with Camarosmith members he ran Dead Teenager Records for a number of
years (Jack Endino recorded most of those releases). Now he is releasing his own music on Digital
Warfare Records and says "running the label is great! Since it's mine we do what we want! And what
we want is to get out there and do tons of touring!"
Key album cuts include “Kill 4 U” which breaks down the door with reckless riffing and a hardhitting
hook that proves equally incisive and infectious. Track number four, “Potions & Powders,” is
devilishly intoxicating while the psychedelic swing of “Snake Breath” (track eight) bares sharp teeth.

You may all know the song „Superman“, title-track from the award-winning television show „Scrubs“. Now this ist he first time that song ever gets released on vinyl (as long as of course the whole album) and it’s about time. But this LP got so much more to offer than „just“ the track „Superman“. The album features 12 great independent Power-Pop tunes, such as the title track „All the time in the world“, „Trampoline“ and 9 more.
Besides Lazlo Bane, their two masterminds Chad Fischer and Tim Bright also earned credits in composing music for movies and of course TV series, such as: „Private Practice“, „The Rocker“, „Paris“, „Little Manhattan“ or „I love you, Beth Cooper“.
Songs got re-mastered for vinyl by Masterdisc NY (who also did masters for Beastie Boys, Tom Waits, Tamones, Dictators, Sharon Jones, Nirvana and many more....).

All the songs on this LP bare this same classic punk touch with incredible speed-drumming, fearce and churning guitars and raw-shouting yet clear vocals that altogether reminded me of long-time classic acts like M.D.C. or 7 Seconds and the likes. I'm aware that there's no artistic standout stuff in what this band is doing technically, but the energy, the boost of power and speed dripping from these songs, along with my nostalgic feelings that come with listening to this 1-2 minute songs, makes it a great LP. You'll have to be open for some heavy shit when you buy it, but if you like your bands fast and furious without a degree of metal or growling voices, I'm sure you'll love it as much as we do. And the vocals from the Bronx vocalist Matt Caughtran on this album are just outstanding!
History: Trying to descibe Bullet Treatment to someone who has never heard of them or know what they are about is just impossible. There's has never been a band like this before. Started by guitarist Chuck Dietrich, the band has featured over 30 members over its long history including Tim McIlrath of Rise Against, Matt Caughthran of The Bronx, and Dave Hildago Jr. from Social Distortion. In the past Bullet Treatment also featured members from Faith no More, Cancer Bats, Comeback Kid, Swingin‘ Utters, Grave For The Fireflies, Rock Kills Kid, Civet, The Drips, The Voids, Jeffries Fan Club, RF7 and more… They pretty much sound exactly like all the bands that they like.... THE RAMONES, BAD RELIGION, MISFITS, 7 SECONDS, CIRCLE JERKS, ANGRY SAMOANS, TSOL, MINOR THREAT, & BAD BRAINS !!!!

Following the release of last year's impressive "Skyward" album, Forming the Void, originally formed in 2013 in Lafayette, Louisiana, has gained an impressive reputation for raising underground rock into realms of the previously unknown. Atmospheric, heavy and progressive yet losing none of these earnest qualities at volume, they layer their ambitions as thickly as the riffs that help transmit their visions. Newly signed to Italian label Argonauta Records, this March will see the release of their third album Relic. Like Skyward before it, it draws on one hell of a colossal sound. Summoning the towering hard rock riffs and progressive influence of bands like Mastodon, Baroness and Torche, Relic finds the four piece illustrating their bold and adventurous ideas in the most vivid of colours.

Finally Big Bad Voodoo Daddy’s fantastic Debut is available on vinyl. Fans had to wait a long time. After all these years (the album originally was released in 1994) it still feels great to listen to songs like !13 Women”, “Cruel Spell” or “Machine Gun”.
Big Bad Voodoo Daddy was founded in 1989 by Frontman Scotty Morris. The band’s name comes from Blues Legend Albert Collins who once signed a poster to Scotty with “for Scotty, the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy!”. The band developed their own style of Swing, inspired by the music of the 40s and 50s.
Soon after this album the band got signed by a major label and story went on til today! During their career they played the half-time show of the Super Bowl amongst many more TV shows. Maybe you have recognized em playing themselves in the cult movie “Swingers”. They also play 150+ shows a year.
Release date: 14th of april
Reform School Girl however is the full package. Nick Curran was painstakingly dedicated to making this album authentic through and through to the 50′s era. From the tone, to the style, to the energy, to the licks and lyrics, to the recording equipment and the recording technique, you can go through this album and not find one single element that isn’t indigenous to the 1950′s era, and by doing so, Curran awakens that inherent yearning embedded in all of us to transport back to that time and feel the warmth, positivity, and coolness that permeated that period in America.
This is the legacy of Nick Curran, along with his enthusiasm and his amazing guitar licks. From his debut album Fixin’ Your Head in 1999, Curran was able to take you back to a better place and time. He was the time travel agent for those old souls born in the wrong era.
Rest In Peace Nick Curran, you done good. You made life down here a little happier, but apparently Heaven needs a rock n’ roll revitalization too.”
Just in July the band has been on a great tour through central europe and now their latest album will be finally out on vinyl: Mother Tongue are not the usual band. The four guys from Los Angeles are not just talented players, but also got characteristic voices (at least 3 of them). That alone doesn’t say much about Mother Tongue. For this band the music has to speak. And it does. Just like singer and bassist Davo recently shouted at one of their shows: „It’s your show, not ours!“ (He was talkin about the audience btw.)
Mother Tongue have put all their energies
together, cause they’re driven by the will to bring their music to the people. Their music is a fight against inner & outer demons. They’re constantly lookin for a common ground
for their manifold influences, cause they have a "Monster to feed". A challenge they can just win together. "Together released" is a programmatic title for that cause. In less than 3
minutes they break loose and celebrate a psychedelic inferno. On the other side there are the dark colors of the songs of Mother Tongues
latest album. You won’t find any superficial fun, radio songs or summer days without clouds on "Follow the trail".
Lonestar Records feels happy and honoured to release this Longplayer!
